Jeet Kune Do

JKD

THE WAY OF THE INTERCEPTING FIST

Jeet Kune Do is an amazing Martial Art that was developed by the late Bruce Lee that was well ahead of his time and that on many aspects of his life. His Martial Art is still very misunderstood to this date because a lot of people still mistake the philosophy of JKD and the actual Art of Interception! Jeet Kune Do's philosophy is amazingly beautiful, it is the philosophy that Bruce Lee used to create his Martial Art but it doesn't mean in any way, shape or form that any Martial Art that people decide to create following the very JKD philosophy is to be called Jeet Kune Do because the truth about Jeet Kune Do is that it is concept and principle based and for people to understand this art, they must first understand the underlying concept of it - interception from any range.

IMPROVE YOUR JKD

Training Formula

Jeet June Do is a step by step project, work your way through it and when your skill set is up to date, do simulations and scenario training, make it street by adding deceptive or aggressive body language, dialogue and role play and try your best to make realistic contact with each other out when you pressure test as you wouldn't do your self or your training partner any favour by going easy. Jeet Kune Do is mainly a blend of concepts and principles coming from from Fencing, Boxing and Wing Chun. It is about interception, it is a concept and not an endless accumulation of techniques, Jeet Kune Do is about stripping away and not adding more stuff, just as in meditation, it is about letting go of the unessential.

A dedicated Jeet Kune Do practitioner should prioritize the development of practical skills and their application in real fights. The ability to perform under intense adrenaline-induced conditions plays a crucial role. These physiological factors significantly impact fine motor skills, decision making, and overall performance when one's life is at stake. By training to overcome these challenges, practitioners can cultivate the resilience and adaptability necessary for success in combat situations. Embracing the full spectrum of physical and mental demands enables them to confidently face any real-world encounter and effectively defend themselves.

Without getting into politics, if anyone wants to know what Bruce Lee's fighting art of Jeet Kune Do really looks like in its combat application then they should have a look at Bruce Lee's sparring video at the Long Beach Tournament. This is the only footage available that shows what Jeet Kune Do truly is. There are several outstanding Jeet Kune Do instructors out there, but in my humble opinion there is one Jeet Kune Do instructor that really made the bridge between all the JKD attribute development we see everywhere and the actual combat application of Jeet Kune Do, his name is Tommy Carruthers and he lives in Scotland. Remember that JKD was meant to be simple, direct and non classical, it was designed for the street altercation and it was designed to end the fight as quickly and as clinically as possible.

The purpose of trapping sensitivity drills is to build attributes and it is in no way, shape or form how we fight the fight, in fact Bruce Lee kept evolving until his death and so did his Martial Art so he decided to let go of most of the trapping in Jeet Kune Do because he realised that it took way to long and that disengagement was much safer, quicker and a much more efficient way to end the fight. When we achieve a certain level of combative maturity, we finally understand that there is a big difference between attribute development, technical development and actual fighting application, in other words we must train exactly how we fight!
